New Principal Announced for Warner School

The Board of Trustees for The Horizon School Division, are pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Bergsma as the new principal of Warner School commencing the 2025-2026 school year. 

Brian has taught a diverse range of subjects including Science, Math, Woodshop, Welding, and Agriculture. Bringing with him over a decade of classroom experience, a strong foundation in educational leadership, and a deep commitment to student and staff success. Brian has shown leadership in launching a farm education program that introduces students to animal care, handson agricultural learning and opportunities in career exploration. He has a passion for experiential education, innovation, and career engagement for students.

Brian has played a key role in curriculum development for Dual Credit programming through a collaborative partnership with Lethbridge Polytechnic, helping to bridge the gap between high school and post-secondary education. He recognizes the value of providing students with meaningful learning experiences beyond the traditional classroom. His commitment to student engagement is evident in his leadership and involvement in enriching opportunities such as Marine Biology field studies, ski excursions, and Career Discovery Days—each designed to broaden students’ horizons and connect their learning to real-world experiences.

Currently completing his Master of Education in Educational Leadership, Brian is focused on building a school culture rooted in trust, collaboration, and high expectations. His leadership philosophy centers on leading by example—never asking more of others than he is willing to give himself. He believes in creating environments where struggles are seen as new learning opportunities and where both staff and students feel supported to grow.

Outside of school, Mr. Bergsma is an active member of the community and a dedicated coach. He enjoys an active lifestyle, which includes hiking, mountain biking, golfing and spending time with his family. Please join us in welcoming Brian back to Horizon School Division, in his assignment as Principal of Warner School.
