New Principal - Hays School

The Horizon School Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Sandi Hughes as the new Principal of Hays School commencing with the 2023-2024 school year.

Ms. Hughes’ education includes a combined BA/BEd with a major in Modern Languages (French/Spanish). She has also completed the coursework for a Master of Education, majoring in Educational Leadership, and is writing a thesis on instructional leadership throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic. 

Ms. Hughes joined The Horizon School Division, specifically Milk River Elementary School, in 2015 and is currently in the role of Vice Principal for Milk River Elementary School and Erle Rivers High School. Her teaching experience ranges from Kindergarten to Grade 12, and she has leadership experience gained through the role of learning support teacher.

Sandi and her husband Liam live in Lethbridge with their two dogs Baron and Bella. She likes spending time with friends and family and enjoys painting, being outdoors, watching movies, swimming, and biking. 

When asked to comment on her new role Sandi responded, I am excited to be the Principal for Hays School. I am looking forward to becoming a part of Hays School and the community it serves. While working as a teacher and Vice Principal in Milk River I have gained a deep respect and appreciation for the integral role schools play in small communities. I amexcited to collaborate with staff, students, parents, and community members to ensure Hays School continues to be a
positive and inclusive place for students to learn and grow.
