Lomond Community School Job Shadows
Our students are our Future Workforce.
One of the ways we are supporting youth with career exploration is to work together with the local business community for job shadows, which allow students to gain knowledge about the many different career pathways and work environments there are.
Job shadows are typically a couple of hours to a full day long, and provide youth with a peek at some of the many environments and connections that exist in our evolving labour market, both directly and indirectly related to their interests, likes, and even identifying some of their job dislikes while on site.
Students are able to put their communication skills to practice during a job shadow (by asking the host questions about their business and industry), and are also expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner. Job Shadowing is a great way for students to increase their networking skills. It’s important to keep an open mind and embrace relationship and network building while observing the activities and people around you. You never know who may be watching or interested in your skills!
