Taber Incident near Central School.
TO: PARENTS AND STAFF OF CENTRAL SCHOOL, D.A. FERGUSON MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND W.R. MYERS HIGH SCHOOL,
FROM: DR. WILCO TYMENSEN, SUPERINTENDENT
RE: POLICE PRESENCE NEAR CENTRAL SCHOOL
DATE: MAY 2, 2023
As you may already be aware, there was a community incident, north of 56th avenue in Taber, that involved the police at approximately 9:00am. The matter was unassociated with the school. Police contacted Central School and D.A. Ferguson School administration and requested that they keep students indoors while they dealt with the incident. The police were able to resolve the matter within approximately 45 minutes.
While there was no student threat and little to no impact to students given the timing, we are sensitive to the fact that police presence can impact children in different ways. As such, we are providing this letter home to ensure that accurate information is disseminated and to meet our commitment of communicating openly with our community.
The Taber Police will be providing a media release later today. Should parents have questions about police response we ask that they contact the Taber Police.
As always the safety of students is the number one concern for the school division and we thank the police for their quick response and for keeping the division informed.
