Horizon School Division Welcomes New Principal for Central Elementary School
May 28, 2021
The Board of Trustees for The Horizon School Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Shea Mellow as the new principal of Central Elementary School commencing with the 2021-2022 school year.
Ms. Mellow began her teaching career in Peace River in August 2000 and joined Team Horizon in August 2003, teaching at Barnwell School until she took on a new challenge as Instructional Coach, for the division, in August 2019. When reflecting on her teaching time at Barnwell School, Ms. Mellow indicates she taught many grades and subjects, but most of her assignments revolved around Jr. High ELA and K - 9 Art. She feels truly blessed to have enjoyed a tight school family for so many years. In her roles as Instructional Coach Ms. Mellow has enjoyed expanding her professional capacity and instructional breadth. She feels that working in the schools across the division has expanded her perspectives and bolstered her appreciation for the inspiring service the teachers and principals give to their communities and students.
Ms. Mellow’s education includes a Bachelor of Ed in Fine Arts with great distinction, and she is currently part way through completing a Master of Educational Leadership.
On a personal note, Shea is married and has two teenagers, one son and one daughter. As a family they enjoy camping, travelling, biking, and spending good times with good friends. They have made the best of the slower pace of pandemic life and are all eagerly awaiting a return to some sense of normalcy where they can cheer from the bleachers, enjoy fondue gatherings with friends, and hop on a plane destined for...almost anywhere.
When reflecting on how she feels about her new adventure Shea states “I have had the pleasure of working with the wonderful staff at Central School during my time as a coach and I very much look forward to this new adventure with such a distinguished and skilled team.”
The Board of Trustees is confident Central Elementary School students, staff, and community will benefit from Ms. Mellow’s experience and strong relationships skills. We look forward to working with Ms. Mellow, parents, and Central Elementary School as they continue to foster quality teaching and optimum learning that is built upon collaboration and effective relationships.
Please join us in congratulating Shea on her new assignment with The Horizon School Division.
