Horizon School Division Welcomes New Principal for Barnwell School
The Board of Trustees for The Horizon School Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Barbara (Barb) Arend as the new principal of Barnwell School commencing with the 2021-2022 school year.
Mrs. Arend (Brown) has been in education for 25 years and has worked in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, where she has taught all grades from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in rural or remote schools. Most recently, she is the principal and teacher at Erle Rivers High School in Milk River.
Mrs. Arend first worked at Barnwell School from 2002-2007 where she taught Grade 2, Grade 9 Social Studies and was active working on the school yearbook, students union, and the junior high drama club. After gaining leadership experience in a variety of rural settings and earning her Master of Education in Leadership with a rural focus, Mrs. Arend is excited to be returning to Barnwell School to continue its legacy of “Excelling in the 3 A’s: Academics, Arts, & Athletics”.
Barb and her husband Michael have a blended family of 6 children, and now have 2 grandchildren whom they enjoy spending their free time with. Mrs. Arend states, “I’m looking forward to being a part of the Barnwell team once again, reconnecting with colleagues and the community whom I’ve worked with previously and getting to know the staff and families that I have not had the pleasure of working with yet. Together we will continue the school’s focus of creating enriching learning opportunities, in a safe & caring environment for all. “
The Board of Trustees is confident Barnwell students, staff, and community will benefit from Mrs. Arend’s experience and looks forward to working with Mrs. Arend, parents, and the staff of Barnwell school as they continue with quality teaching and optimum learning that is built upon collaboration and effective community relationships.
Please join us in congratulating Barb on her new assignment with The Horizon School Division.
