New Instructional Coach

Posted on Jun 9, 2021

The Board of Trustees for The Horizon School Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Amanda Cayford as the new Instructional Coach beginning in the 2021-22 school year.

Ms. Cayford currently teaches students in Grades 5 through 12 at Lomond Community School, predominantly in mathematics. She began her teaching career in Horizon in 2011 with her first year teaching math and science at Taber Mennonite School.

Amanda’s teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in the idea of conceptual understanding and she strives to create opportunities for all students to make meaningful connections with each idea taught. Her assessment strategies balance traditional assessments with cross-curricular projects that connect mathematics, science, humanities, construction, and even art. She believes this allows her students to not only see value in knowledge-based questions but also to see the importance of being able to apply these concepts in a variety of ways that are engaging to them. Amanda’s experience with a variety of grade levels will allow her to support teachers preparing for the implementation of new curriculum as well as to extend the strong foundations of planning, instruction, and assessment laid down by her predecessors in the role.

Amanda enjoys spending her summers camping at the lake with her husband Jason and her two boys Dexter and Greyston.

We welcome Amanda to this position and look forward to the skills and talents she brings to her new role.
