Keeping our Students Safe on the Bus
Posted on Sep 12, 2019
As our bus students are back on the road with First Student, our transportation provider, this month, thank you to all for paying attention to buses on our rural roadways. The penalty for failing to stop for a school bus with its alternating flashing red lights activated is $543 and six demerit points. It is illegal to pass a stopped school bus as long as its red lights remain activated.
This video was produced by the Student Transportation Association of Alberta (STAA) and was made possible through a grant from the Alberta Traffic Safety Fund.
The association has also created a program our teachers can share with high students through the Career and Life Management (CALM) curriculum. As our older students are also current or future drivers, we want to make sure they are aware of the importance of driver safety when encountering a school bus.
