Benita Peters

Low German Mennonite Consultant

Phone: 403-223-3547 ext. 10153

Benita started her role as Low German Mennonite Consultant for Horizon School Division in 2018. Before that she taught the Locally Developed Course of German Language and Low German Speaking Mennonite Cultural Studies at Chamberlain School in Grassy Lake.

As a Low German Mennonite Consultant she can meet the following three needs:

  • supporting high quality German language and culture programming in schools where a German program currently exists

  • staff development activities for Horizon staff to build knowledge and understanding of Low German Mennonite culture

  • translation services for schools.

Benita grew up with her family in Mexico, where she taught grade one for three years upon finishing her own education.  She moved to Canada in 2012 and has worked in the Taber area since then. In her free time she enjoys road trips with her husband, doing fun activities with her nieces and nephews, and relaxing with a good book or crochet hook and yarn in her hands.
