Latest Information Regarding Welcoming, Caring, Respectful, and Caring Learning Environments
The Board continues to engage with parents and the public with regard to Policy Development in relation to their obligation under the School Act and the Alberta Human Rights Act as it applies to individuals with diverse sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.
The Board had previously passed Policy IHG - Respecting Human Rights (LGBTQ) and requested feedback. Based on feedback to date with respect to this draft policy, the Board of Trustees opted to modify Policy IHF - Welcoming, Caring, Respectful, and Safe Learning Environments rather than continuing to create a stand alone policy. The attached policy received first reading today and was passed. As such, it replaces draft policy IHG which was sent out previously for consultation.
The Board encourages distribution of this policy and welcomes further feedback regarding draft Policy IHF. Note that given the Minister's deadline of March 31, the Board asks those wishing to provide feedback to do so by March 24.
